CLANNAD: After Story – Episode 09

It’s CLANNAD: After Story episode 9, and it’s time for all the seniors to start thinking about their future, as high school graduation is just around the corner. However, Nagisa once again comes down with an extended illness which threatens her ability to graduate.

Okazaki and friends start thinking about what they want to do after graduation, as their final year in school is coming to an end. However, even though everyone else seems to know what they want to do – even Sunohara – Okazaki has no idea what he wants to do.

However, soon Nagisa comes down with a fever, which doesn’t get better for the school year, causing her to have to repeat her senior year for a 3rd time. Okazaki plans on repeating as well, but Akio convinces him not to, noting that it would make Nagisa even sadder. In the end, everyone but Nagisa graduates from high school, sending Nagisa into Sakagami and Yukine’s class.

Meanwhile, in the World with No Birth and No Death, the girl and the robot attempt to build a flying machine to get to their destination before the winter comes, causing the girl to become unable to move…

Well, we finally seem to be getting into the thick of the After Story portion of the story now as we have a significant time jump in this episode, from about October to the following April, ending in Okazaki, Sunohara, Kyou, Ryou, and Kotomi’s graduation.

I’m not sure where things will go from here, though I’m betting that the time line in the story will start accelerating quite a bit from this point on. My guess is next Okazaki finds a job, though beyond that I’m not sure. Given that Kotomi is going over seas and Kyou and Ryou appear to be going on to some form of additional schooling, sadly we may not get to see them very much from now on.

I’m also wondering if there is a connection between Nagisa becoming ill over the winter and the girl in the deserted land’s problem of not being able to move when winter comes.
